Minutes of the District 11 Meeting held Tuesday May 29, 2007

Meeting was called to order by President Jim Barnhart with 14 present.  Those in attendance were Ruth Hughes, Henry Swartz, Wayne Olson, Marie Barnhart, Janet Fout, Sheryl Blum, Art Pickelheimer, Joe Collins, Mary Hamilton, Les Wolfe, Bill Kaeppner, Bill and Mitzi Barnes.

Minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved with the following corrections:  It was left out in the previous minutes the money that Mitzi has been saving the district by doing cards at tracks when she can and saving on postage and envelopes. The minutes also did not state that we were down $1600 from this time last year.

Old Business: Wildwood Lake did not change the harescramble they had running against GNCC.  They had the ok from the AMA.  They have another event running against harescramble.  Les Wolf, representing WWL, present at this meeting states WWL does not understand why they should have to reschedule when they scheduled this at the sanction meeting.  They don’t plan on rescheduling.  The AMA doesn’t recognize the events as conflicting events.

Treasurer’s report: Joe reports expenses were up.  Big expense was April’s newsletter invoices.  We saw $1000 improvement over the last month mostly due to increased revenue.  The check written at the end of January for the Buckeye Series is still outstanding.  Ask Mitzi to check with Cheryl to find out why hasn’t been cashed.

Office Report:  Mitzi stated 260 new memberships.  She could not give breakdown for each division, due to a program problem.  Mitzi talked about some of the problems with the tracks not running D11 recognized classes.  Mitzi ask if wanted to extend scholarship since no submissions received.  Mary made motion to extend deadline to July 1. , Joe 2nd motion.  Voted on, 11 approved 1 opposed.  Motion passed will post on home page of website the new deadline.  Mitzi also ask why the southwest series was not marked on each of the events in the series and if it would be ok to do so.  It was decided it would be ok to mark them.

Motocross Report:  Sheryl reported tracks not doing good job at signup.  One rider rode in 16-24 for 6 races and he is only 15.  We need to send him a letter telling him to quit riding in that class.  Tracks are combining classes they shouldn’t be combining on gate.  There are reports of one track running a race without an ambulance on site.  Sheryl will speak with them.  She felt a lot of riders are sandbagging.  She may check with other districts to see if they have ridden in A class in their district.

Harescramble report:  Marie didn’t have too much to report.  There have been several events.  Mitzi got a complaint in office about Hocking Valley’s harescramble.  Marie has handled it.

Enduro:  Charlie absent.

Road:  Mary didn’t have much to report.  Buckeye Beemers has a district rally coming up June 3.  Mother’s day event was not well attended.  Congress is same weekend as Thrills in the Hills so there will be a few people (herself included) that won’t be able to help out much the Thrills weekend.

Hillclimb: Ruth had hillclimb 6/23 & 6/24.  Ruth submitted a proposal which is listed in new business of minutes.

GP Report:  Henry reported that Brimstone had GP decent turnout.  Question as to who was tracking points for GP this year and Mitzi stated she is tracking them.

Congress Report:  Mary will continue to talk with AMA about notifying the district of cancellations.  Also mentioned that each division needs to submit proposals to AMA for changes they want to see happen.

Off Road:  Dan absent

ATV Congress:  Kim absent.  Bill K feels there needs to be more involvement in ATV off road.  The riders who ride for pleasure get better and decide then to race which then supports the district.  Need to find out if Kim is going to get more involved and if not needs to be replaced.

Newsletter: Jayne reports next newsletter deadline is June 20.  There will be a tribute to Charlie Rees in next newsletter.  Questioned as to why Buckeye Series does not have to pay for ad in newsletter since D11 now has to pay to be a part of series. Janet stated it should be free as previously agreed upon.  She also stated that D11 should be paying $1.00 per rider at their event and they haven’t been.  Mary commented that as far as she knows there was a criteria set but not contract between D11 and Buckeye Series.

New Business

Jim mentioned Cheryl Willard (secretary) has missed 3 meetings as of this May meeting.  Rules state she should be replaced.  Would like to check with her to see if she is still interested in holding position.  Jim ask Mitzi to ask her since she seems to have the most contact with her.

Marie got a letter from Brad Wilson wanting to ride B class even though her has ridden A class.  He wants a letter from district saying it is ok because he states AMA and Racer Productions say it is ok but it is not OK with district.

Joe brought up the unofficial D11 website using D11 logo.  Should we ask them to remove it since we have it copyrighted.

Joe ask if we should make donation to Hospice of Dayton for Charlie Rees.  Mary made motion to donate $50 which was 2nd by Henry.  Voted on, approved 9-0.

Proposal submitted by Ruth Hughes:

#05-07

Chapter VIII Hillclimb

Section A

Change the 0-250cc in stock class to 0-400cc stock.  Change 251cc stock to 401cc & up stock class.

Proposal submitted by Amy Eastman:

#06-07

Article III Motocross

Section A

Due to lack of participants in the Quad 2 stroke class revise this class to become solely Quad “C” class division and revise Quad 4 stroke to become and “A/B class division.  This would allow a true beginner quad class and allow a separation of skill levels therefore increasing participation in both classes.

Proposal submitted by Sheryl Blum

#07-07

Should proposal #06-07 fail change the following:

Due to lack of participants in Quad 2 stroke throughout the district.  Remove Quad 2 stroke from class list as a D11 recognized class for year end awards.

Ruth made a motion to adjourn.  Second by Sheryl.

Recorded by Mitzi Barnes, office manager.
