District 11 Monthly Meeting Minutes March 25th, 2008

Meeting was called to order by President Jim Barnhart with 19 in attendance.  Those attending were:  Jim & Marie Barnhart, Dan Knecht, Art Pickleheimer, Joe Collins, Kurt Mosher, Janet Fout, Sheryl Blum, Jeremy Osborn, Mark Shafer, Bryan Stone, Bill & Mitzi Barnes, Ruth Hughes, Henry Swartz, Wayne Olson, Mary Hamilton, Dennis Deeter, and Shawna Bickley.

Minutes were read by Jim, and approved from the last meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:  Joe reported that there were a couple issues.  First, we have not received an AMA subsidy.  Second, the banquet committees spent too much on the banquets.  Joe said that he had sent out budget for the committees to follow, but they must have been ignored.  Jim responded that we need some criteria on who sets the budget.  In that instance the banquet committee set the budget amount.  Dan added in that he has not heard one complaint about the banquet, and that he thinks were on the right track.  Joe is concerned about the district dissolving in a couple years, because we are spending too much.

Office Report:  Mitzi Barnes reported that we have 385 members so far this year.   126 MX, 243 HS, 8 Road, 8 Hillclimb.  No scholarship applicants yet, the deadline is the end of March.  HS results are now up on the website with one minor issue, but it should be fixed.  Hocking Valley did a good job selling membership cards.

Motocross Report:  Sheryl Blum reports that we had a good turnout at the banquet, and received a lot of compliments.  She will have awards with her at the races until June 29th, the last Spring Series race.  No A class advancement this year, according to the AMA.  The first Spring Series race is Sunday March 30th.  She has received a lot of calls about classes.

Hare Scramble Report:  Marie Barnhart reports that Hocking Valley, Wilwood, and 5 brothers cancelled last weekend.

Enduro Report:  Charlie Kline was absent.

GP Report:  Henry Swartz reported that on March 16th there was 42 rider turnout, and why the newsletter had no year end awards shown for GP?

Road Report:  Mary Hamilton reports that banquet was a good time, and nothing else at this time.

Hillclimb Report:  Ruth Hughes reports that the Hill Climb banquet is Sunday March 30th.

Dirt Track Report:  Art Pickelheimer reports that there are 4 dirt track events in d11 sanctioned by d12 clubs.

Congress report:  No “A” advancement this season.  Some districts are doing it themselves, but the AMA would more than likely uphold a rider appeal.

Newsletter:  Jayne reports that the March issue is out, and no issues.  Janet questioned why Jeremy Osborn can advertise his practice events against district race events.  Jeremy Osborn replied that he has to keep his doors open too.  Jayne added that it was full page ad, that’s what was sent to me.

Website report: Bill Barnes had nothing to report.

Old Business:

The 15/10/5 rule was re-introduced by Jeremy Osborn with stats from the 2007 season.  Many felt that this rule had good potential it just needed a way to be implemented.  Mitzi thought that trackside could do some of what it is needed to implement the rule.  There will be more discussion to come next month.

The DMC vintage race on May 16th is cancelled.

New Business:

Thrills N the Hills:  Jim stated that Fast Traxx was the only bid.  They are proposing a Saturday GP, a Saturday night SX, and a Sunday MX.  This would be a 60/40 split of the proceeds.  Jim asked about the HS, and suggested paying HS points for those who signup for an extra class.  This would raise even more money for the district, because you would get more people to sign up for the GP/HS.  Dennis Deeter mad a motion to accept the bid, 2nd by Marie.  The motion carried by a vote of 5-0.  Mary added that Sunday Creek needs to retract its advertisement of Thrills.

An audit committee was selected, and will consist of Joe Collins, Mary Hamilton, Dennis Deeter, Jim Barnhart, Jayne Chrystal, and Bill Barnes

Dennis made a motion to adjourn.  2nd by Marie.
