Trail Riding/Dual Sport

Trail riding provides an excellent opportunity to become familiar with a motorcycle on a one-to-one basis. However, before heading for the trails a few very important points should be considered.

• Always wear a helmet and eye protection.
• Always ride with a muffler and spark arrestor and always ride slowly in unfamiliar areas; there could be a cliff just over the next rise or a logging truck around the next curve.
• Ride only in approved areas where you have permission to ride. Landowners have been known to stretch wire or chains across private roads to keep trespassers out.

The AMA offers trail-riding and dual-sport events that are enjoyable scenic tours and non-competitive in nature. Sanctioned events of this type are indicated in the monthly American Motorcyclist listings.

The AMA Government Relations Department is very active in keeping off-road riding areas open to trail riders, and your AMA membership is important to maintaining this effort on your behalf.
